Q & A between Dr. Abe and the new trader M

M: Dr. Abe, a red laser beam shoots out when the trigger on the device is pulled.
Is this the laser that detects methane gas?
Dr. Abe: Noooo!  The actual laser used for detection cannot be seen by our eyes.
So the red laser is just a "guide light" that shows where the actual detection laser is shooting.
M: What is the difference between SA3C05A and SA3C06A?
Dr. Abe: SA3C05A simply gives an acoustic alarm
(including a LED lamp display) based on a preset threshold.
SA3C06A is an upper grade model that has the following functions:

EUser can set the threshold value at its discretion
EProcesses statistical data
ESaves data
ETransfers data to a SD memory card
EHas a SD memory card insertion slot
EMarking function
EClock function
M: How much gas leakage can it detect?
Dr. Abe: As a gas leakage amount, it can detect up to 10ml/min under no wind.
Upon using the device outdoors, the gas will be blown away by wind,
depending on the strength and direction of wind. So the methane-column of the area that is blown becomes smaller and may be determined asgno leakageh even if there is an actual gas leakage. So, you must consider the wind upon measurement and detection.
M: I could't see the red guide light (red laser beam), when I use the LMD outdoor. Why did this happen?
Dr. Abe: The LMD emits a red color ray as guidance, which is on the same axle as the measuring ray (non-visible ray). This guidance ray will become difficult to see as the distance becomes longer and/or when the LMD is used under strong sunlight. In such case, confirm the target by the standard aiming device(gunsight)or you can optionally add a rifle scope(called a gDot sighthscope) that has a red light gdoth in the center of the scope , which shows you where you are aiming.
M: How to operate long hours?
Dr. Abe: The standard battery pack S on the LMD operates for about 1.5 hours. The way to extend the operating hours is by:
EUse a battery pack L (option). (operating hours: approx. 6 hours)
EUse an AC drive unit (option). Replace it with the battery pack. This is better for long operations.
M: How to measure long distance?
Dr. Abe: The measuring distance of the LMD is ~10m (low)/~30m (high) when measuring against ordinary reflecting objects. If there is a requirement of long distance measurement and/or such as gI wish to measure and inspect the other side of the river for periodical maintenanceh, the device is equipped with a gReflectorhas standard (optional for SA3C05A). When operating long distance, the reflecting ray will become too weak with ordinary reflect objects and may not be able to measure/detect. However, this can be resolved by placing shiny/reflecting material sheets as a reflecting object. This enables the detection range to be extended to a maximum of 150m (confirmed).
M: My finger gets tired when pressing the measuring button for a long time. Is there a good way to resolve this?
Dr. Abe: There is a gMeasuring Button Locking Buttonhequipped to the LMD. When the button is pressed while pressing the gMeasuring Buttonh, continuous operation is enabled.
M: Can the device be operated in rain or dusty environment?
Dr. Abe: The LMD is designed to be water and dust resistant. Therefore, it can be used under slight rain and/or dusty conditions (However, it is not guaranteed under heavy rain or in water) Furthermore, it is believed to have slight discrepancies in detection capabilities in such conditions. (since there will be intermediate reflections caused by water drops, snow, dust, etc ) .
M: What is a Marking Function (only for SA3C06A)?
Dr. Abe: SA3C06A continuously saves data and the marking function enables to register a mark to a specific data. Time (year/month/day/hour/minute/second) is registered to the stored data and when you wish to check/review the measuring point within the data (point A, B, Ccetc.), by utilizing the marking function, it will enable you to search for such location (measuring point) much quicker than simply using the time information.
When you wish to use the marking function, you will be pressing the gmeasuring buttonh for measuring but press even stronger to activate this function. (when this function is activated, the screen display will be reversed)
M: Can the LMD be used in explosion-proof areas?
Dr. Abe: The LMD is non-explosive-proof structure. The reason why it was designed as non-explosive-proof is because the LMD detects very low concentration of methane and if it is used in a very high concentration condition, it will show a measurement error (saturation error) in any direction. The saturation error will occur at 1/5 of the minimum concentration level of explosion.(In Japan, when using the LMD, they have a rule to always have the operator wear a portable gas detector (very cheap type) to determine the appropriate environment for the LMD)
The emitted ray will not cause ignition and hence will not explode. Apart from the conventional gas detectors, the LMD uses a new technology that measures and detects methane gas remotely without direct contact. Therefore, the LMD presents a new measuring and detecting method.
